Hey all!
As Mel wrote in yesterday’s blog, we ran a trail half marathon in Tahoe on Sunday!
My first thoughts, trail half marathon should be more exhilarating then a road half marathon. Boy was I wrong! Granted the scenery was exquisite but the terrain was brutal. Huge rocks to twist an ankle on, massive hills to power walk up, and perhaps the longest 13 miles recorded :-p. When you think there is a finish line close, nope its still so many miles away! Like Mel said, with the lack of landmarks and running literally through the woods, you could not tell how far you’ve ran or how much more you need to run.
As Mel mentioned, I took first in my age group – which totally surprised me considering my time was 2:10:xx. I was trying to keep my 8min mile pace but what killed me was a ½ mile up hill with a grade of 20%+-. Something you just cant run or even jog up. I am glad that Mel and I got to run together for a part of the run and the support from Mel’s Wife, Marge (if I spelled that right?), at the finish line!
Would I run a trail half marathon again? My current answer would be maybe, only if I had a chance to warm up to 13 miles. Basically, I did this cold turkey with only running 4 miles on Saturday. I definitely don’t recommend it to a mild runner, definitely want some distance built up before the race!

Well, I’m not going to make it in today. My entire right side of my body aches and I’m walking like a 90 year old man :-p. Alena and Jason, let me know if you would like help with the move. Can’t wait to see the new facility!

...but I sub'd a 400M run for the 500M row which probably saved me about 20 seconds. I would've been about 7 or 8 seconds faster, but I got 3/4 of the way through the 10th jerk & my body decided to give up so I had to regroup & try again.
